The Stupidity of AI

I saw an ad for AI services that said "Why are you still using your brain?" Get ready for some real stupid businesses to start popping up.

30 years ago, it wasn't easy to open a business. You really needed a brain. And a lot of money. The internet was still in it's infancy, so one needed a storefront or office space. There was no social media, so all advertising was traditional and costly. One had a slim chance of going viral and building a following. There were no lame online design programs filled with soulless templates, so one would have to hire an ad agency or design studio to design a logo, letterhead and that type of thing. It took real money, experience, smarts and lots of time and to open a business.

With the advancement of technology - opening a business became much easier. One could use online tools for everything from a website, to getting incorporated, to getting a logo designed. One didn't need to start with office space - a website was often just enough to get started. I could go on and on, but you've seen it. Many small business popped up, along with side hustles, all because technology made it much easier. From going viral to building a following on social. Opening a business and running a business changed.

Enter Artificial Intelligence. I've seen so many ads for everything from virtual employees to AI apps to run a hair salon. So now someone just needs a dream and a prompt to start a business. Recently we've had several new clients that want us to print children's books. They are getting the art and story for the book from AI apps. They know nothing about art or writing, but are now enabled to create something and sell it. As we were working on formatting the book, the client go frustrated because the art they provided wasn't the right size. At one point they screamed - "But I don't know anything about books or publishing" Exactly - so they have no business trying to make one.

I've also seen literally over a dozen different coffee companies pop up on instagram. All AI designed logos and content. If you visit their websites, there is scant information. Its probably just some service that fulfills their orders and slaps their label on the bag. And its all the same coffee.

These types of businesses will not be able to succeed. They're simply be another distraction, making it harder for legit businesses, as they waste electricity and water so the data centers can pump out their broken AI dreams. I think those of us still using our brains will look even smarter.
